About the Author
Eight years after passing out from R. E. College Durgapur (presently N. I. T. Durgapur) with a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication engineering, presently I am pursuing my Doctorate in Economics at Indian Institute of Management Indore. During these eight years, I searched for jobs in Kolkata, did my MBA from Institute for Technology and Management Mumbai, served three fruitful years at Tata Consultancy Services, and finally landed up at IIM. Now, I am living a happy married life with my love, Tanaya. Big thanks to her for literally driving me to finish this book. This story talks about my eventful engineering days at R. E. College Durgapur. My institution taught me numerous things concerning life. While passing those days inside the boundaries of R.E.C., I felt a transformation in me, which helped me to move ahead in life. This book is a tribute to my Alma Mater. Life is nothing but a journey. During this course of journey, we have to encounter numerous phases, which leave marks on our souls. We have to learn, unlearn, and then relearn the definition of life, the way we look at the various shades of life. When we live with our parents, we are always surrounded by their protective shields, which prevent us from coming into terms with the harsh facets of reality. Development starts in actuality, when we break free from those shields. That is the time, when we meet new people, and it is we who decide whom we will allow to be our friends for life. From that moment onwards, we are on our own to decide upon our friends and enemies. They are the ones, who teach us how to fight for own existence, how to look at life through kaleidoscope, and how to build our perceptions and beliefs. Being faced with the adversities of life, these lessons give us the power to stand erect, to fight back, and to move ahead. This story is dedicated to all those friends and foes, who helped me to learn these lessons of life. Today, when I look back, hundreds of known and unknown faces come crowding to my memory. I have lived again those memories, while jotting then down in the pages of “R.E.CALL”. This Recollian’s journey of recollection traverses through the rooftops and corridors of hostels, tea-stalls of Gandhi More, performances of Hall Nights, fights at Recstacy ground, Jhoops of Naru-Da, cheating in exam halls, parties at Super and Sam, and what not ! “R.E.CALL” is not a mere recollection of my R.E.C. days, but it is a time machine for those, who desire to visit their college days again.
