How cruel the husband be, how incompetent the husband be, wife is not supposed to be free from him. Even after death of husband she cannot marry again. Thanks to various social reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Ray and British government that sati pratha had been eradicated from this country. How cruelly wives were being immolated with the dead body of their husbands. Even today many widows are forced to live deserted life. They are not supposed to participate in any of the auspicious ceremonies in the family. Many widows from Hindu family take shelter in religious places like Brindavan as they have been deserted by their family members, by their sons, whom she brought into being. There they lead a life of beggar even having profound property. Perhaps this was the reason that wives in middle class upper caste family lived a life of second class citizen and were considered not better than a bonded slaves or dismal animals. There is story of Sati Savitri who had saved her husband from the clutch of Yamaraj, the god of death. But there is no story where husband had saved his wife. To the contrary woman had been cursed by his husband when someone molested her making guise of her husband. Women have been cursed by their husbands for no fault of them. During partition the women who were lost from their family and met after a month or two were never accepted by their family members on the ground of their being corrupted. There are many festivals like Teej and Karwa Chauth for women who aspire for long life of their husbands keeping fast for whole day without any particle of food or single drop of water. But there is no such festival for husbands. They do not need to aspire for long life of wives. Wives are nothing more than a baggage for them which may be replaced once one is lost.

So many laws are there in country in every field and ironically lawlessness is prevalent everywhere. Laws and acts relating to consumers are perhaps the biggest one in India but what is the position of consumers, everyone knows. This is the country where milk is being prepared from detergent and urea. This is the country where restricted medicine is sold unrestrictedly. This is the country where grains, sweets all contain cancerous elements. This is the country where spiritual babas are doing heinous crimes like rape with minors. This is the country where top leaders are indulged in bribery and other heinous scams and remain out of clutch of law.” “The long hands of law are unable to eradicate child marriage completely. In many child marriage cases grooms have turned vagabond whereas brides turned well educated. How an educated girl can accept a tramp or truant his life partner? But they have to do so in the name of tradition, society, culture and other things.”
About the Author
I am sure you will find the characters of the novella in and around your surroundings. From the very adolescence I found literature interesting. Poets and cartoonist have special reverence in my heart. The message that poets convey by arranging a few words attracted me. The message that cartoonists conveyed using some simple and curved lines impressed me. I started writing from my college days. My first article was published in college magazine. Thereafter house magazines of my institution gave me opportunity to express my feelings. Later some of my stories and articles were published in regional as well as national newspapers and magazines. Due to being busy in service I could not write much but I intend to write many novels on many topics. I intend to write on many topics that have created deep impact on my mind. Writing gives me a sense of pleasure and satisfaction. The subject that I have chosen came in my mind some eight years ago when I saw a blind handicapped beggar beating his strong and stout wife. That incident disturbed me in such a way that I could not stop myself to pen down a novella based on wife’s plight in our society. No doubt other many instances in the society provided me the ground for story. It took such a long gap due to lack of time. However I am happy that it came into existence albeit after a long interval. I thank Partridge from the bottom of my heart for its help in publishing the book.
