Memoirs Of A Vagabond

This Memoir could very well have been called The Diary of an Interpreter. But diaries are the preserve of Ex Prime Ministers and the Celebrities and I am none of them. An Interpreter conjures the image of a comfortable and peaceful job in an International forum like the United Nation. As a free lance Interpreter my work has been a tumultuous one. It has involved me in considerable travel to places like Texmaco in Calcutta and to H.M.T. Factories in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Both these jobs were in Italian. I have also travelled to Djibouti in Africa for A.C.C. and to Algeria for R.C.F. Both these jobs were in French. 80% of my interpreting job were in Italian & 20% were in French. I have done small jobs lasting a few hours to those lasting several days. Sometime working even more than 8 hours a day. I have worked in posh & air-conditioned offices and in noisy & polluted workshops. I have been enjoying in my work and also treated as a Valet when misunderstandings arose between the 2 parties .The blame has been squarely put on my shoulders for misinterpreting. These constitute only a fraction of the jobs done by me during this period. These 13 jobs were chosen because of the importance of the Companies and as representing different Industries. They included my 4 assignments abroad. In my declining years and loss of my eyesight, I started teaching Italian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, first in Private Institute in Mumbai and then later at my residence in Thane under the name of EURO School of Foreign Languages.
