She seemed tensed but, never admitted it… When I tried inquiring about it, she would seem to dodge my questions by counter-questioning me. Then suddenly, she brought up this topic that, once she was over with her studies, her parents, who had been looking for a guy, would get her married immediately. All, which she had asked for, was a bit more time so that she could achieve something professionally. But, to this, her father would always reply that profession is something that can be pursued even after marriage, and as she was the eldest amongst his four daughters, he didn’t find it a good enough to delay her marriage as he had to cater to the responsibility of his other daughters as well… I don’t know why; but; as soon as she raised this issue, I became very nervous! I didn’t have an explanation to this sudden nervousness of mine. I mean, she was only 23. When I was of her age; marriage was something completely out of the question. I had never been confronted to the situation to which she had been confronted to when I was of her age. Was this because I am a boy and coz she is a girl? Sometimes, things are taken for granted! At 23 I was certain that I had ample time to settle down in life before I could even consider marriage. And no one questioned me for this delay! It was a correct decision by a man of my age… that’s how the masses would state. But, I never realized the fact that it was something which would affect my best friend this deeply! I had no clue, that simply because she was a girl, society, in its own way, had started questioning her age and her not being married away by her parents! Aren’t we people of the modern era? In today’s world, where there has been a dramatic change in the way people think, I was seriously amazed to discover that there are some people who withhold the prophecies of yesteryears till date. Is finding a life partner everything when there are women who want to exceed in the professional fields? Till date the sex roles are almost predetermined… Men belong to the offices and women to the kitchen! Pink is for girls and blue is for boys! I was angry with all these thoughts coming into my mind yet my hands were tied. I was a complete no one to act on the situation!

He is also a state level rifle shooter and has represented his state in the East India Shooting Championshipl. Through Happy Holidays, he aims at highlighting how conservatism and hypocracy have created a disparity among men and women.
