Rise of London Gambler

About the Book

The novel “You-lia” was written specially for the Biennale Cinema College script contest in Venice. The entertaining story of two geologists exploring oil in Kazakhstan and a girl called You-lia, who had a deprived childhood. “Rise of London Gambler” is a story about a student who pursued his master’s degree in finances and decided to apply his skills by gambling. You will read about his scientific approach, elements of psychology in the gambling, his exciting life, and finally, his way to success. “Schizo” is a story about a guy, his thoughts and feelings, which show how rich his life was despite all the obstacles caused by those who were giving him medical aid.

About the Author

Serik Jumanov – author of novel ‘You-lia’ (2012), his debut work, which had success in Biennale Cinema College script contest in Venice. ‘Rise of London Gambler’ is his second big project. “Schizo” was written in 2014-2015. Born in 1973 in Kazakstan, USSR, then in 1988 he moved to Russia, where he pursued his Bachelor Degree in Economics&Management at St Petersburg State University of Cinema&Television. After graduation, he worked as a Business Development Manager for St Petersburg office of Tramunta Holding, Singapore. In 2000 he went back to Kazakstan, where he works as a Russian/Kazak Translator for international oil companies, and runs amateur association football club Uran Aqtobe, Kazakstan League Two as a part-time coach. In 2011-2012 he pursued an MBA degree at London School of Commerce, UK. Married, one son. Currently occupied with investment activities and football business.
