Free Preview “Your highness, a messenger has come to see you. Shall I send him inside?” asked a sentry waiting for the king’s response. Hearing him, a magnificent old man in royal robes turned to face the sentry, his skin glowing brightly as a contrast to his robe which was as dark as night with details in gold. His ornaments were sparkling with diamonds and other precious jewels unknown to many. He had blonde hair that reflected any light falling on it like a mirror. His facial expression was perfect for any king as he had many gestures involved in it. His only flaw was his age shown through the wrinkles covering his face. He was also holding a staff made by the finest craftsmen in the kingdom using the best quality of gold decorated with gems of different sizes. The tip of it had a resemblance of a snake with eyes of rubies shining bright red. As a whole he was a humble old king. “May I know who has sent him at this time of the day?” questioned the King, with a gracious voice. It has to be admitted that he had a good hold of the listener's attention for this reason. “Queen Aranga, sire.” replied the sentry. “Well then send him inside, Rastus.” he ordered. “Yes, sire.” Within a moment or two, Rastus, the sentry, left the room and headed towards the hallway. The hallway, through which he was passing, consisted of many paintings, depicting the major wars of the Morlan dynasty. Rastus was a trustful sentry which is why he knew about most of those paintings and other important secrets. He was working in that palace for about his life time concluding that he was just as old as the king. The hallway was a long one. He kept walking till he reached a small room. He looked around for any sign of the guards and when he was sure that the coast was clear, he reached his pocket and took out an old rusted key. It was Rastus’s first time to peek into a room secretly, especially a one that was strictly prohibited. So he had to be careful and looked for any sign of guards. He had a fear that he wouldn’t succeed and his fear did come true. “Hello Rastus. May I know why you are rushing?” asked a sentry, who was just entering the hallway from the guest room which was quite opposite to the small room. He quickly put the key back into his pocket and turned to face the sentry. “Oh! That is nothing Renato. I am just presently involved in an official matter which seems to be important.” answered Rastus, trying to cover his fear. He started to sweat due to the tension. “All right then. But…” before Renato could complete his sentence, Rastus left the conversation unfinished, but yet Renato seemed to encourage Rastus to continue his rush though he had an eerie feeling about it. He knew that Rastus was never afraid or tensed about anything but tonight he saw fear in his eyes. He wanted to ask him but he was no longer around.
