Realisation of My Vision
Once I was at Daz’s place at the weekend and I was talking to him about this mundane life I was going through. That’s when he said to me, “Well, that’s how everyone’s life is, and you are no different.” Even though I agreed with what he said, I still had that feeling inside me that this was not something I wanted to do forever. I knew I was seeking something else but didn’t have a clear picture of what it was.
That same night, Daz and I went out to have a couple of drinks at the Crown Casino in Melbourne city. As we were having our drink, I saw a few people in front of me starting to rush towards a particular place. I thought there was some punch on happening. Daz and I went along with the crowd to see what was going on. When we got to the area where everyone was rushing to, I saw around 150-200 people gathered in one spot and all of them were looking towards the stage in front.
Somehow, Daz and I managed to squeeze in between people and got to the front. There were a few security guards standing near the stage and there were two more people on the stage of which one looked like a reporter. He had a microphone in his hand and was asking questions to the person standing next to him. I didn’t know who the other person was and I knew every player from the Australian cricket team so one thing I could say for sure, he wasn’t a cricketer. He looked very casual wearing a blue cap with ripped blue jeans and a very simple and plain red colour T-shirt. But he had this glow on his face which was different from the rest of the people out there. I could sense his confidence and attitude in the way he was answering questions. His charisma told me that he was someone famous.
I asked Daz, “Who is this guy?”
“Don’t you know him?” Daz asked me in surprise.
“No, I don’t. Who is he?”
“Bro, he is one of the famous Hollywood actors, Eric Bana. Haven’t you seen his movies?”
“No, I don’t even watch English movies. What is he doing here?”
“Melbourne is his home town. He probably is just here to visit and now mobbed by the crowd,” Daz said.
“Ah, okay,” I said and that’s when I turned to the front to look at Eric. I kept on looking at him and somehow got lost in my thoughts whilst standing there. I saw myself in his place standing on the stage surrounded by all these people who were just shouting, “Sunny, Sunny, Sunny, Sunny.”
My imagination ended when Daz shook me. “Where have you gone? He is gone now and so is the crowd.”
I didn’t say anything.
“Are you feeling OK? You are not drunk. Right?” Daz asked.
“Yes, I’m fine, Daz.”
We started making our way back to our home after that. I didn’t say anything to Daz at first but on our way back in his car, I spoke to him about what happened earlier.
“Daz, remember how I was saying that I had such a dull or mundane life?”
“Yes, so?” Daz raised his eyebrows.
“I feel like I know what I really want from this life now.”
“And what’s that?” Daz asked.
“I want to be an actor,” I said.
Daz stopped the car, said, “Whatttt?”” then laughed and started driving again.
“Oh, now just because you have seen Eric Bana earlier, you want to be an actor in Hollywood. Tomorrow you’ll meet up with Shane Warne, then you will want to be cricketer and so on…”
“No, I feel like I have got a goal now, and that vision that I always wanted. I don’t know what exactly has kicked within me, but I think all this has happened for a reason. Somehow someone up there wanted me to go to Crown tonight and see Eric Bana. When you shook me, I was lost in my thoughts and was visualising myself in his place. It wasn’t something I wanted to think but it just came in my head somehow. And now, I feel completely different. That thought of not living a mundane life is not there anymore. I feel like I have got a clear vision of what I really want to do in this life.”
“Sunny, seriously, I think you’ve had a bit more than a few drinks. Go home and sleep and when you wake up tomorrow, you will not have these stupid thoughts any more,” Daz said.
I shook my head in disappointment and said, “No point talking to you, Daz, if you won’t understand.”
He stopped the car and turned his head towards me. “What do you mean, I won’t understand? You are saying you want to be an actor now just because you saw Eric Bana earlier. OK, tell me, what’s going to happen with that $100,000 loan you got from the bank? What’s going to happen with your I.T. Engineering and another three and a half years of study left?”
“I haven’t thought about everything else yet, Eric… I mean, Daz. All I know is I have finally got a vision which I know I want to chase and I will. I told you all this because I thought you would understand and feel happy for me but aghhh… Forget it,” I said.
“Yes, that’s what I’m saying: forget it. Anyhow, I will drop you home now, you need some sleep,” Daz said.
Daz and I didn’t talk much that night after our argument. He dropped me home and then left.
