About the Book
The Chowfins of Garwhal is a set in a world gone by; it traces the fascinating integration of a Chinese tea-planting family into the conservative culture of remote Garhwal. The bold strides in education that the family made, their contribution to the Great War, and their deeply Christian roots make the book a unique journey into life of a family that made Garhwal their physical and spiritual home.
About the Author
Descended from a family of Chinese tea planters who made India their home after the mutiny of 1857, Harry Ensign Chowfin was seventeen years old when he left his home in the mountains of Garhwal to plunge into the Great War as a record keeper with the British Army. Throughout his life, Harry kept family records, letters, newspaper clippings, and photographs on his fascinating family of academicians, preachers, and military men. Harry has preserved the past in beautiful language and accurate information.
