Every individual wears a hat, and every dream is like a hat! Sometimes the hat you wear is not your forever hat, or even the right hat. As we grow the hat we wear changes in type, shape, weight and even color. It just depends on the events we are facing at that place in time. To find one’s special hat, it takes time, patience and devotion. In fact, as I write this book, I’m finding myself wearing a new hat. Do you think you are wearing the right hat? Is that going to be a permanent or a temporary hat? I suppose none of us really know for sure. All of us change into different hats as we go along, and only the truly lucky among us realize the moment when we absolutely are wearing just the right hat. We also change our hats when the hat is old, out of style or becomes dirty. When we get tired of wearing the same hat it’s time for us to find a new one. I use the hat as a metaphor for who we are, who we become, and who we want to be in the next chapter of our lives. I hope you will enjoy reading this short story about finding my perfect hat, and hope that your hat will find you even if you think you can’t find it. It may even led you to wonder if there is really a perfect hat for you, but trust me; if I have been able to find mine then you can most certainly find yours too.

About the Book
‘A Little Girl in a Big Hat’ is the real story of a young girl born into poverty and her struggle through life into womanhood. The author uses the hat as a metaphor for the different stages and experiences she went through in life, and as it applies to people’s lives in general. From childhood through adolescence and into adulthood we all find ourselves wearing different hats. This is a fascinating story of the different hats worn by a young girl who had a very demanding, and at times, difficult life. She shares her experiences up to the present day and encourages the reader to reflect on the question, “Have you found your perfect hat, or are you still searching for it?”
About the Author
Rose Gegner was born in 1966 in the Philippines and raised on the island of Cebu. She came from very humble beginnings in a country that had little to offer a poor young girl. However, she rose from hardship and despair and went on to live a very fascinating and fulfilling life. She wrote this book with the hope of inspiring other young people who may find themselves today as she was then. Rose is married to Bruce Gegner, a career Airman in the United States Air Force. They have been together for over 22 years and have a son named Lance. Together they have lived and travelled all around the world, and those experiences are what have made Rose reflect on life and the many different challenges and opportunities it has brought. She and Bruce now live in Okinawa, Japan, and don’t know where life will take them next. But Rose isn’t concerned, because the future is just another adventure waiting to be had, as was her past about which she writes.
