The Acts of Cooking Pancit Malabon CHOP the onions. Crush and mince the garlic. Fry the garlic. Slice the calamansi Grind the pork. Shred the smoked fish. Soak the annato seed with oil in boiled water. Boil the eggs; Grate the eggs. Boil the golden bihon. Pound the shrimps' heads. Pound the pork crackling. Cut the pechay baguio and the apples Cut the shrimps into halves. The acts of cooking. Pounding,chopping,boiling--these acts are painful for these ingredients, yet their purpose is to offer their life for life. Such is the act of offering life... dying to oneself each day. Sometimes crushed by life's tragedies Chopped off from life's attachments Soaked in life's labors Boiled in life's pressures Pounded by life's trials Shredded by life's transitions Refined by life's daily grind And in all these, God works for good to all those who love Him, those whom He has called according to His purpose. ( Romans 8:28) Oh, how God makes us all beautiful because of these acts. And my Pancit Malabon? Utterly "Kanyaman"! (Yummy!)
