About the Book
American agriculture is highly efficient: only two percent of the population is directly involved in agricultural production yet capable of outputting an abundance of high-quality and safe food at a low price to feed the rest of the United States while also supporting robust exports and maintaining sustainability of the ecosystem and environment. But, it’s not enough. In Global Sustainable and Healthy Ecosystems, Climate, and Food Systems, author Dr. Ashok Alva communicates that additional strategies must be developed to increase food production and food quality as the world population increases to nine billion within the next few years. He shows how this needs to be accomplished with the available natural resources, ensuring the practices will have a minimum impact on ecosystems and the environment. Offering a look at the big-picture issues affecting ecosystems, food systems, and climate, Alva presents a compilation of up-to-date information on the major challenges the world faces in protecting the ecosystem, environment, and climate to support vibrant food systems.
