About the Book

This book is aimed at individuals who are either denied jobs of their choice or find that working for others is not for them. One option open to all of them is self-employment. This becomes workable only if the dormant entrepreneurism present in all nonentrepreneurs can be jolted out of its slumber to set them on a path leading to the ranks of entrepreneurs. This is the path of the reluctant entrepreneur. The path will be strewn with obstacles, and success is decided by whether the travelers make the right choices during each of the three major stages of their journey. The three major stages are start, growth, and exit. The first and most important success factor is to start right. The second success factor is to continuously adjust to a changing market. The third key success factor is to decide how the travelers wish to exit—whether to cash out and retire rich or to leave a legacy to be remembered by. This book presents the many options available for each major stage and discusses the key factors to focus on for success. A number of carefully selected case studies are included to show why some travelers are successful.

About the Author

Dr. Umasuthan Kaloo is the owner-manager of a management consultancy that he founded in 1990 after working for a leading international firm for many years. Parts of this book draw from the experiences of his journey from the comforts of paid employment to the challenges of self-employment and beyond.
